Artist Statement
Many people are believed to have a secret that they will take to the grave. While working on my piece inspired by ‘A Dead Secret’, I discovered a letter from my mother’s later years. I sometimes look at this special “secret”, although I am uncertain whether it will be burnt someday, as in the story. I began by drawing the profile of a woman who looked nothing like my mother.

死ぬまで持っていかなければいけない「秘密」をひとつ、誰しも持つという。「葬られた秘密」を描いているときに、母からの晩年の手紙が見つかった。これは私の大切な「秘密」。いずれ葬られるかどうかわからないが、時折母の筆跡を見る時がある。私はまず、母の面影とは全く似ていない女性の横顔から描き始めた。
