Artist Statement
I loved the story of Hoichi the monk playing for a dead army. The thought often occurs to me that we are living in a world haunted by past events we either do not know about or do not really understand. I wonder if those that went before us are watching and what they would make of what they see.

死者(平家)の軍勢のために演奏する僧侶の芳一の物語が気に入った。私はよく、私たちは自分たちの知らない、あるいはよく理解していない過去の出来事に取り憑かれた世界に生きているのではないかと考えることがある。私たちよりも先に逝ってしまった人たちは、この世界を見ているのだろうか。彼らはそれを見て何を思うのだろうか。
