Artist Statement
At the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, 30 years ago, I noticed a crab from Japan in one of the cabinets. I made a drawing of it knowing that someday I would find a use for it. ‘Mimi-Nashi-Hōïchi’ caught my imagination in Kwaidan. At long last an opportunity to find a use for my crab drawing.

30年前、ロンドンのヴィクトリア＆アルバート博物館で、ひとつのキャビネットの中に日本から来たカニが置かれていることに気づいた。そこで私はいつか使い道が見つかると思い、そのカニのドローイングを描いた。『怪談』において「耳なし芳一」 は私の想像をかき立て、ついに私の描いたカニのドローイングを使う機会がやってきたのだ。
