In response to Lafcadio Hearn’s ‘Hōrai’
ラフカディオ・ハーンの「蓬莱」に寄せて
Artist Statement
I created this piece inspired by ‘Hōrai’. When I read the story, I had a feeling that ‘Hōrai’ might be a representation of this country. I thought that perhaps it was not a metropolis but rather the rustic countryside that still preserves the atmosphere of the tale. With this in mind, I depicted the mountains of my hometown in the artwork.

元にしているお話は「蓬莱」。「蓬莱」を読んで、その文章から蓬莱はこの国なのかと思った。そんな空気を残しているのはこの国の都市ではなく、地方の田舎と呼ばれる場所なのかもしれないとも思い、故郷の山並みを描いた。
