“Ireland’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, celebrates the theme ‘Creativity Connects People’. Serving as a platform to highlight the creative bonds between Ireland and Japan, the pavilion will explore the deep and enduring links that exist between our two countries. The exhibition Kwaidan – Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn and the story of the remarkable life and legacy of Koizumi Yakumo / Lafcadio Hearn will be a key part of our offering.
With Expo expected to draw over 28 million visitors from Japan and beyond, I am delighted that we have the opportunity to showcase the incredible story of Koizumi Yakumo / Lafcadio Hearn to our guests.
The Kwaidan exhibition – which brings together artists from Japan and Ireland – beautifully embodies our theme, providing a vivid example of creativity connecting people across cultures and generations.”

E X P O 2 0 2 5 大阪・関西万博のアイルランド・パビリオンは「創造性が人びとをつなぐ」を大切なテーマとして掲げています。日愛間の創造性豊かな結束を浮き彫りにする場としてのパビリオンでは、二国間の深く不朽のつながりに、さまざまな角度から光が当てられることでしょう。その中核をなす表現の一つとして、「怪談― ラフカディオ・ハーンとの邂逅」展、そして小泉八雲/ ラフカディオ・ハーンの稀有な生涯と遺産の物語があります。
万博には日本全国および世界各地から2 8 0 0 万名以上の来客が見込まれています。ご来場のみなさまに、小泉八雲/ ラフカディオ・ハーンの心躍る物語をこうしてお披露目できることを大変嬉しく思います。
「怪談」展では、日本とアイルランドのアーティストが一堂に会しています。まさに今回のテーマが華麗に体現されており、文化や世代の垣根を越えて人びとをつなぐ創造性が鮮やかに例示されています。
