Artist Statement
Sonjō, a hunter, kills the male of a pair of ducks (Oshidori). The female duck escapes into the rushes. When Sonjō returns to the lake he sees the female duck again. She swims over to the hunter and then rips open her body with her beak. The lovesick duck dies before Sonjō’s eyes.
アーティストの声明
猟師のソンジョウは、つがいのオシドリのうち雄を殺してしまう。雌のオシドリはイグサの奥へと逃げ込んだ。ソンジョウが沼に戻ってくると、再び雌のオシドリを見かけたが、雌は猟師のもとに泳いできたかと思うと、その体をくちばしで切り裂いた。恋するオシドリは、ソンジョウの目の前で死んでしまったのだ。
