Artist Statement
In ‘Jiu-roku-zakura’, the soul of an old man possessed a cherry tree and made it bloom. The beauty of cherry blossoms contains danger; the sight of the cherry blossoms in full bloom is almost insane. That beauty is preserved in exchange for someone’s death. I was relieved to know that such an equilibrium existed in this world.
アーティストの声明
「十六ざくら」では老人の霊魂が桜の樹に乗り移って、花を咲かせた。桜の美しさには危うさが含まれている。桜の花が満開の様はまさに狂気とも言えるほどだ。誰かの死と引き換えにあの美しさが保たれている。そのような均衡がこの世の中にはあるのだと安心した。
